Hikvision has always been a front runner in the security tech industry and now they’ve made some more upgrades. They’ve upgraded the ColorVu to 3.0 version, as well as upgrading their Acusense and Audio 2.0 too. What does this mean for your CCTV system? Will it make a difference upgrading your current model to the new version? Lets discuss…

The security industry has taken a significant leap forward with Hikvision’s latest ColorVu 3.0 technology. This latest version brings several remarkable improvements over its predecessors, making it a game-changer in surveillance technology. Let’s explore what makes ColorVu 3.0 stand out from previous generations.

Image Sensor Technology

  • ColorVu 2.0: Advanced F1.0 aperture with standard light sensitivity
  • ColorVu 3.0: Enhanced F1.0 Super Confocal Lens with improved light gathering capabilities and up to 130% better light sensitivity

AI-Powered Processing

  • ColorVu 2.0: Basic noise reduction and image enhancement
  • ColorVu 3.0: Advanced HikAI-ISP technology with intelligent noise reduction and superior motion clarity. Dynamic motion trail reduction enables crystal-clear image quality even in low-light conditions.

Colour Accuracy

  • ColorVu 2.0: Good colour reproduction in low-light conditions. We’ve always found ColorVu a leader in their night vision colour technology.
  • ColorVu 3.0: Enhanced color accuracy with improved white balance and more natural color representation, even in complete darkness.

Smart Light Features

Hikvision Smart Hybrid Light allows users to select the lighting mode that best suits their requirements: IR, White light or Smart mode. In Smart mode, the network cameras maintain infrared illumination until an event triggers color imaging to capture critical details.

  • ColorVu 2.0: Standard supplementary lighting with basic white light
  • ColorVu 3.0: Smart Hybrid Light technology with intelligent switching between IR and white light based on scenarios

Motion Detection

  • ColorVu 2.0: Basic motion detection capabilities
  • ColorVu 3.0: Enhanced motion detection with reduced false alarms and improved tracking accuracy

Environmental Adaptability

The new ColorVu 3.0 cameras are definitely tougher. The 2.0 version had IP67 protection but the new version has enhanced durability with improved anti-corrosion materials and better performance in extreme weather conditions.

  • Better resistance to harsh weather conditions, better even in towns near the sea.
  • Improved performance in varying light situations
  • Enhanced durability for outdoor installations – a longer lifespan for your camera with less maintenance.
  • More reliable operation in challenging environments

Advanced AcuSense 3.0 Technology

The latest AcuSense 3.0 brings significant improvements to security monitoring:

  • Enhanced AI-powered detection algorithms
  • AcuSearch function for faster video analysis
  • Reduced false alarms from environmental factors like rain, lighting, or insects
  • More accurate human and vehicle detection
  • Improved perimeter protection capabilities
  • Quick response to security events for restricted areas

Revolutionary Audio 2.0 Features

The new Audio 2.0 system takes communication to the next level. Dual microphones and array design, combined with echo cancellation and anti-reverberation algorithms ensure the crystal-clear audio. This extends the effective reception distance of the human voice, doubling the improvement compared to single microphone.

  • High-powered speaker system with intelligent power amplifier
  • Crystal-clear sound quality
  • Enhanced audio detection capabilities
  • Improved environmental noise filtering
  • More effective two-way communication
  • Better audio coverage for larger areas – previously audio struggled above a small room/office area but now it’s much better in larger, more open plan areas.

How does it compare to the older versions?

  • ColorVu 2.0: Standard audio recording and playback
  • ColorVu 3.0: Advanced Audio 2.0 system with improved clarity, range, and two-way communication

An environmental improvement

We love that Hikvision network cameras have upgraded packaging for environmental protection. All products are equipped with eco-friendly packaging materials. Much better, it’s so infuriating sending un-recycleable  packaging to landfill. This will enable us to recycle most of their packaging.

So would we recommend upgrading your CCTV system?

It really depends upon what you’ve got. If you’ve got the 2.0 version then it’s already good, you may want as close to perfection as you can in which case you may want to upgrade. However it may give you enough now and you don’t feel it’s necessary. The Acusense upgrade we can do as a firmware upgrade on your current system (not all cameras so we’d need to double check the model you have) so we could upgrade that without doing anything else.

If you have an older CCTV system, maybe a lower resolution camera and it’s not giving you the imaging you’d like then this is definitely worth thinking about upgrading to. Cost wise it’s fairly reasonable, there is a great choice in models and we may be able to use the existing cabling and just put up the new cameras which cuts down on the overall cost. If you’re unsure about what you’ve got and whether it’s worthwhile changing, just get in touch and we’ll have a look. We only recommend upgrading something if we think it’s worth it so we won’t try to sell you anything you don’t need,
